Nephrology & Hypertension Education

A central mission of the division is to best educate and train the next generation of renal and hypertension specialists. The quality of the educational experience offered by the division is highly regarded; at least 6 renal programs in the New York Metropolitan area send their renal fellows to us each year for transplant electives under the supervision of our faculty. Furthermore, our renal fellowship program is a highly competitive one, with hundreds of applications for the 4 positions available every year. The program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) for the maximum allowable 5 year period.

Our educational curriculum and clinical training are comprehensive and complemented by an intense conference schedule. Each week, renal trainees attend a minimum of 5 educational conferences: Renal Pathology Conference; Grand Rounds; Journal Club; Chief of Service Rounds; and Consultation Rounds. In addition, seminars are offered on topics such as hemodialysis, hypertension and renal physiology. The renal attending physicians and fellows gain valuable teaching experience through actively contributing to the training of medical students, Internal Medicine residents and the surgery residents (on the transplant rotation). Rotations in our division include Acute Dialysis, Outpatient Maintenance, Hemodialysis, Peritoneal Dialysis, Renal Medicine/Hypertension, Research and Transplantation. Longitudinal Clinics include Outpatient Continuity Clinic, Hypertension Clinic and Outpatient Transplant Clinic.

Our distinguished faculty members are highly sought-after for their participation and leadership in national and international meetings. Often, our faculty members serve as program faculty for the post-graduate courses organized by national societies such as the American Society of Nephrology and the American Transplantation Society.
